Career Indaba is Africa’s leading multiplatform employment and labor market intelligence network, dedicated to unpacking workforce challenges, economic shifts, and future-of-work innovations. We are seeking a visionary and strategic Program Director to lead the creative and editorial direction of our radio content. You will be responsible for overseeing programming that informs, empowers, and engages Africa’s job seekers, professionals, and policy influencers.

This volunteer role is ideal for a creative leader with a deep understanding of radio broadcasting, audience development, and workforce storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the overall programming schedule and editorial direction of Career Indaba Radio.

  • Ensure that radio shows align with the organization’s mission of economic transformation and labour market insight.

  • Work closely with presenters, producers, and sound engineers to maintain high-quality, relevant, and timely content.

  • Review and approve show concepts, formats, and storylines that speak to employment, education, and industry change.

  • Monitor and analyze audience feedback and listenership data to optimize programming.

  • Mentor and support volunteer radio staff, encouraging innovation and journalistic excellence.

  • Ensure compliance with broadcasting standards and internal editorial policies.

  • Coordinate coverage for special events, interviews, and national labour market developments.

Who Should Apply?

  • A strategic thinker with at least 3–5 years’ experience in radio, content management, or media programming.

  • Strong editorial judgment and passion for employment, economic, and workforce issues.

  • Experience leading teams and guiding content development processes.

  • Understanding of diverse African audiences and labour market discourse.

  • Ability to balance creativity with operational structure and broadcast deadlines.

  • Proficiency in programming tools and content management systems is a plus.

  • A collaborative leader with a passion for public-interest storytelling.
