We are seeking a compelling and credible News Anchor / Newsreader to deliver employment and business news with clarity, urgency, and authority across our radio platforms.
This volunteer position is ideal for a communicator with a firm grasp of current affairs, labour issues, and economic developments who can deliver news bulletins that resonate with Africa’s working population.
Key Responsibilities
- Present daily news bulletins focused on employment, policy changes, labour market developments, and industry updates.
- Research and compile news scripts, ensuring factual accuracy and contextual relevance.
- Collaborate with broadcast journalists, producers, and the editorial team to align bulletins with Career Indaba’s editorial mission.
- Deliver news in a confident, professional, and audience-appropriate tone.
- Monitor local, continental, and global news related to the economy, workforce, and social impact.
- Conduct brief interviews or commentary segments when breaking news occurs.
- Assist in verifying information, cross-referencing sources, and ensuring timely updates to news bulletins.
Who Should Apply?
- An articulate and confident communicator with a strong on-air presence.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in news reading, broadcasting, or journalism.
- Excellent command of English (additional South African languages an advantage).
- A keen interest in economic justice, job creation, and labour policy.
- Ability to break down complex stories into engaging, accessible narratives.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to editorial standards.
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines and dynamic news cycles.
- Basic familiarity with radio broadcasting and audio scripting software.
