Accelerate Your Career as a Project Sales Engineer

Drive innovative solutions and deliver value to clients by developing and selling tailored engineering solutions. As a Project Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for translating customer requirements into highly specified project briefs, creating technical and commercial proposals, and converting those proposals into successful orders. You’ll collaborate with engineers, programmers, and suppliers to ensure technical compatibility, manage complex turnkey projects, and provide exceptional post-sales technical support. Your role will be key in ensuring that customer expectations are exceeded while maintaining profitability and fostering long-term client relationships.

 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Develop innovative solutions and quotations based on customer requirements.
  • Convert quotations to orders through technical and commercial negotiations with potential customers.
  • Translate customer requirements into highly specified project briefs.
  • Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for technical and business suitability.
  • Create logical and innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Present proposals to clients effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, programmers, and various suppliers to ensure technical compatibility of solutions.
  • Interpret and develop machine/assembly processes based on customer requirements.
  • Generate costing spreadsheets and calculate the final selling price for solutions.
  • Present solutions to internal departments and ensure the handover of all documentation and information.
  • Serve as the point of contact for non-routine technical issues for major customers.
  • Maintain and improve customer relations.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years Sales and marketing experience.
  • Project management experience (advantageous).
  • Experience in the automation field, PLC, and control systems.
  • Concept preparation (electrical, software, mechanical).
  • Interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Costing and estimation experience.
  • Previous experience in turnkey projects (advantageous).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to create innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions.
  • Proficient in project management methodologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
  • Additional certifications in project management or sales are an advantage.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical sales or engineering project management.
  • Experience in the South African industrial, construction, or manufacturing sectors is highly desirable.

Technical skills 

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and technical sales processes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and CRM software.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
