As a Metallurgical Engineer, you will work collaboratively to develop and optimize processes for metal extraction and plant operations. You’ll be responsible for conducting detailed analyses, implementing innovative solutions, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Your role will involve close collaboration with industry experts, contributing to research and development projects while ensuring operational standards are met. Utilize your technical knowledge and creativity to enhance metallurgical processes and drive sustainability in the mining sector.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Apply metallurgical engineering knowledge across the Platinum value chain, focusing on process optimization, metal extraction, and plant operations.
  • Utilize advanced techniques and technologies specific to Platinum Group Metals (PGM) processing, including mineral extraction, refining, and smelting.
  • Collaborate with industry experts to develop efficient and sustainable metallurgical processes.
  • Support research and development projects, ensuring that operational standards adhere to safety and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in a three-year graduate program that includes rotations across multiple sites, gaining exposure to various stages of the metallurgical process, from ore beneficiation to metal recovery.
  • Engage in real-world projects that contribute to innovation and sustainability in the mining industry.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • BBSc(Eng) in Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering with Professional registration with a recognized engineering body (e.g., Engineering Council of South Africa – ECSA).
  • 12 months of post-qualification work experience.
  • Familiarity with software tools used in metallurgical design and analysis
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations specific to the mining and metallurgy sectors.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical methods related to metallurgical processes.
