As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will collaborate with experienced professionals to analyze, design, and implement effective geotechnical strategies that meet project requirements. You’ll be responsible for conducting soil and rock mechanics analysis, designing foundations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Your role will involve close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless integration of geotechnical considerations into broader engineering projects. Utilize your technical expertise and problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality geotechnical solutions, while mentoring junior team members and contributing to business development efforts.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with an established team of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists to deliver high-quality geotechnical solutions.
  • Provide a blend of technical delivery and project management, focusing on problem-solving, analysis, and design.
  • Liaise with other design disciplines to ensure effective design coordination and integration across projects.
  • Engage in business development efforts to secure new projects and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Travel periodically to project sites in South Africa, the rest of Africa, and the Middle East as needed.
  • Apply innovative knowledge and devise new approaches to solve complex ground engineering problems.
  • Ensure timely delivery of geotechnical project deliverables within defined scope and budget constraints.
  • Understand project goals and stakeholder expectations, managing client relations to meet delivery standards.
  • Foster collaboration across multiple disciplines and international teams, resolving project-level issues independently.
  • Mentor junior geotechnical and geology resources, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
  • Motivate the project team toward achieving project objectives while maintaining enthusiasm and commitment to targets.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng or BSc) in Civil Engineering and Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng. or equivalent).
  • A post-graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering is highly beneficial.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in Geotechnical Engineering within the transport discipline.
  • Solid understanding of soil and rock mechanics.
  • Proven experience in the design of foundations for buildings and structures, slope stabilization, ground improvement, earthworks, and retention structures.
  • Knowledge and experience in foundation and pile design, settlement, earth pressure, slope stability, and bearing capacity.
  • Proficient in geotechnical analysis and design, including the application of the latest analysis methods and software.

Technical Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and report writing abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and develop new and existing business opportunities.
  • Leadership qualities and a willingness to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant design standards and regulations
