Why a Career as a Clinical Research Associate?

As a Clinical Research Associate you will be responsible for monitoring clinical trials across South African research sites, ensuring compliance with SAHPRA guidelines, ICH-GCP, and local regulatory requirements. This role serves as the key liaison between the sponsor/CRO and clinical research sites while navigating the unique aspects of the healthcare landscape.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct site initiation, monitoring, and close-out visits at assigned clinical research sites across South Africa
  • Review source documents, case report forms (CRFs), and regulatory documentation in accordance with SAHPRA requirements
  • Ensure protocol compliance while considering local healthcare context and patient needs
  • Manage and track clinical trial supplies, considering customs and import regulations
  • Support sites with participant recruitment and retention strategies suitable for local communities
  • Ensure adherence to South African GCP guidelines, SAHPRA regulations, and ICH-GCP
  • Maintain trial master files according to local regulatory requirements

 

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, nursing, pharmacy, or related field from a recognised institution
  • Minimum 2-3 years of clinical research experience in the South African context
  • Professional registration with relevant council (HPCSA, SANC, or SAPC)
  • Thorough knowledge of SAHPRA requirements and South African clinical trial regulations
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other official South African language
  • Strong understanding of the South African healthcare system
  • Excellent computer skills including CTMS and EDC systems
