As a Speech and Language Therapist you will assess, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults. The ideal candidate will develop personalized treatment plans and work closely with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to improve speech, language, and cognitive-communication abilities.

 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Provide speech and language therapy clinical to all patients admitted to Life Rehabilitation Unit, including on some weekends and public holidays
  • Conduct assessments, plan programmes and administer treatment to patients to patients with e.g. neurological disorders
  • Assess all Stroke patient’s and other relevant patients swallowing risks upon admission and prior to oral feeds by performing Modified Barium Swallow Evaluations
  • Work closely with the dietician regarding dietary needs and food consistency
  • Educate patients and their families about the patient’s condition
  • Participate in discharge planning and carer training
  • Effectively respond to queries and handle accordingly
  • Professional therapy service implementation in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and  HPCSA registration
  • 3 years of experience in speech therapy, preferably working with a variety of populations
  • Specialize in the treatment of adults with neurological disorders, NDT training an advantage
  • High level of competence in dysphagia and tracheostomy management is required
  • Experience in advanced swallowing investigations an advantage
  • Commitment to quality patient care and customer satisfaction
