Core Responsibilities 

  • Manage the entire Dry Mill process from the Destacking Section through to Dispatch, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Oversee the production process of Dry Mills, ensuring productivity and quality targets are met, including Finger-joint and Planer operations.
  • Plan and manage the production schedule to meet monthly targets and ensure timely dispatch according to the loading plan.
  • Collaborate with the Dry Mill Manager and Wet Mill Manager to ensure seamless production planning and implementation of the loading schedule.
  • Work with Heads of Departments (HODs) to maximize value and volume recovery in the Dry Mill production process.
  • Interact with the Maintenance Manager and Dry Mill Fitter to ensure preventative maintenance (PM) schedules are up to date and followed.
  • Monitor operating and transport expenditures to remain within budget and manage CAPEX projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and health standards, including adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 with B.Tech or National Diploma in Wood Technology, or BSc in Wood Technology.
  • Minimum of 5 – 10 years of experience in a sawmill dry mill production environment.
  • Knowledge of wood drying practices, controls, and the SANS Standards (e.g., Structural Board Grading) is advantageous.
  • Must be willing to work shifts and overtime as required.

Core Competencies 

  • Strong knowledge of dry mill production processes and planning.
  • Advanced understanding of wood drying practices and productivity management.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, including the OHS Act.
  • Ability to manage production schedules, CAPEX projects, and budget expenditures.
