A career as a Pulmonologist you will specialize in diagnosing, treating, and managing lung and respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, bronchitis, and other lung diseases. The role involves patient consultations, diagnostic testing, and long-term management of chronic respiratory issues.
Core Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and pneumonia
- Provide both acute and chronic care management for patients with respiratory diseases
- Evaluate patient medical history, symptoms, and perform physical examinations to determine diagnosis
- Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans that may include medication, respiratory therapies, or surgery
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests (PFTs), chest X-rays, CT scans, and arterial blood gases (ABGs)
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree
- Board certification or eligibility in Pulmonary Medicine
- Experience in diagnosing and managing a range of respiratory diseases. ICU experience may be preferred
- Experience with advanced therapies such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and mechanical ventilation

- Strong diagnostic and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Ability to perform and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMRs) and diagnostic software.
