A career as a Professional Nurse Midwife provides specialized midwifery care throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, delivering comprehensive care to mothers and newborns in accordance with the Nursing Act.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage normal pregnancies, labor, and delivery independently to ensure safe outcomes for mother and baby
- Identify high-risk conditions and refer patients appropriately for specialized care
- Perform emergency procedures when necessary to address urgent obstetric situations
- Conduct post-delivery assessments of both mother and newborn to ensure well-being and recovery
- Manage obstetric emergencies promptly to minimize risks and support patient safety
- Perform and repair episiotomies when indicated to facilitate a smoother delivery and recovery
- Provide antenatal education and counseling to prepare expectant mothers for childbirth and postpartum care
- Monitor and manage the four stages of labor to support a healthy and safe birthing process.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments as required to ensure optimal maternal and fetal health
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing, with post-basic qualification in Midwifery
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in midwifery
- Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification
- Experience in high-risk obstetrics preferred
- Demonstrated competency in managing obstetric emergencies
