A career as a Ophthalmologist you will be esponsible for providing comprehensive medical and surgical eye care, diagnosing and treating all eye diseases, prescribing medications, and performing eye surgery in accordance with HPCSA guidelines and international standards of ophthalmic care.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations to assess vision and eye health.
- Conduct specialized ophthalmic testing to diagnose and monitor various eye conditions.
- Interpret diagnostic tests and imaging to inform accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Prescribe appropriate medical treatments to address and manage eye diseases and conditions.
- Perform laser procedures to treat specific eye conditions, such as glaucoma and retinal issues.
- Conduct minor surgical procedures to manage less complex eye-related issues.
- Manage chronic eye conditions to improve patient outcomes and maintain eye health.
- Provide emergency eye care for patients with urgent eye injuries or acute issues.
- Prescribe corrective lenses to address vision impairments.
- Execute glaucoma surgeries to reduce eye pressure and prevent vision loss.
- Conduct oculoplastic procedures to address eyelid, tear duct, and other orbital conditions.
- Perform retinal procedures to treat and manage retinal disorders.
- Handle emergency eye surgeries to address urgent, sight-threatening conditions.
- Manage surgical complications effectively to ensure patient safety and promote recovery.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- MBChB with 3 years post-specialist experience
- Registration with HPCSA as Specialist Ophthalmologist
- Current HPCSA practicing certificate
- Advanced surgical training certification
- Surgical procedure expertise
- Emergency ophthalmology experience
