As a Neurosurgeon will be responsible for providing comprehensive surgical care to patients with neurological disorders, injuries, and diseases. As a Neurosurgeon, you will diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of complex conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and surrounding structures.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform complex neurosurgical procedures
  • Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for neurosurgical patients
  • Collaborate with other medical specialists (e.g., neurologists, radiologists) to ensure comprehensive patient care
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging studies (e.g., CT scans, MRI, angiography) to inform diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including operative notes and discharge summaries
  • Participate in academic activities, such as teaching, research, and presenting at conferences
  • Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, policies, and ethical guidelines
  • Provide on-call coverage and emergency neurosurgical services as required

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • MBChB Degree with 3-5 years of post-residency clinical experience
  • Completion of a recognized neurosurgery residency program (5-7 years)
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Neurosurgeon
  • Strong clinical and surgical skills
  • Advanced knowledge of neuroanatomy and neuropathology
