As a Cardiothoracic Surgeon you will be responsible for diagnosing and surgically treating diseases of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs within the chest. This role requires advanced expertise in complex surgical procedures, including bypass surgery, heart valve repair, and lung resections, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care in high-stakes situations.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to diagnose diseases and conditions of the heart, lungs, and chest cavity
  • Perform a range of cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass, heart valve surgery, lung resections, and other thoracic operations
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including cardiologists, pulmonologists, and anesthesiologists, to develop and implement optimal treatment plans
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring clear patient guidance on recovery and follow-up
  • Participate in on-call rotations for emergency cardiothoracic cases and manage critical care patients
  • Keep detailed records of surgical procedures, patient outcomes, and treatment plans

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • MBChB with 5 years experience in cardiothoracic surgery, with expertise in advanced surgical technique
  • Board certification in General Surgery, with a subspecialty in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Proficiency in complex cardiothoracic procedures and advanced surgical techniques
