Core Responsibilities 

• Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ medical history and current health to evaluate the risks associated with anesthesia and surgery
• Develop individualized anesthetic plans based on the patient’s condition, type of surgery, and personal medical history
• Safely administer anesthesia to patients during surgical or medical procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety
• Continuously monitor patients vital signs and adjust anesthesia levels as needed during surgery
• Oversee patients’ recovery from anesthesia, including managing any complications and providing postoperative pain relief
• Manage emergency situations that arise during or after surgery, such as adverse reactions to anesthesia, by administering appropriate life-saving interventions
• Provide pain management strategies for both acute and chronic pain conditions, including administering nerve blocks or prescribing pain medications
•  Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care throughout the perioperative period
• Communicate with patients and families about the risks, benefits, and expectations of anesthesia and postoperative recovery

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Medical degree MBChB
• Completion of a four-year specialization in Anesthesiology
• Must be registered with the HPCSA
• Practical experience in anesthesia during a variety of surgical procedures, including elective, emergency, and critical care cases
• Expertise in administering different types of anesthesia
