About the role

Are you passionate about exploring and evaluating mineral resources, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards, and managing drilling operations and geo-data?  As an Exploration Geologist you will be responsible for planning, conducting, and analyzing geological surveys, ensuring the accurate identification and assessment of mineral deposits in line with South African mining standards. Core Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental practices and requirements.
• Follow SHE policies and procedures, escalating unsafe practices or risks to the direct supervisor/manager.
• Support good housekeeping practices on-site to ensure compliance.
• Actively participate in VFLs, risk assessments, and close-out of safety actions.
• Plan drill borehole positions, execute drilling, maintain a geological log, and capture geo-data, serving as an advisory authority.
• Ensure compliance with standards, policies, and procedures, including core and final depth blocks management, survey and chip samples, and borehole area rehabilitation.
• Ensure core and chip logging meets agreed standards and logs are accurately captured in the geological database.
• Verify drill hole data for accuracy before it is made available to Geo-data.
• Ensure proper sampling and numbering of drill holes per QA/QC protocols for chemical analyses.
• Import information into relevant storage and modeling software, updating models to identify further exploration areas.
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of geo-data through surveying, sampling, and interpretation.
• Use updated geological models to identify further exploration opportunities, ensuring all interpretations are verified before specialist sign-off.

Minimum qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• Postgraduate qualification in Mineral Exploration or Economic Geology is an advantage.
• 3+ years of experience in mineral exploration, particularly in gold, platinum, or other South African mineral deposits.
• Proficiency in core logging, structural geology, and geochemical analysis.
• Proficient in geological software (e.g., ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Surpac).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Physical fitness for fieldwork in remote locations.
• Knowledge of South African mining and environmental legislation.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in geological software and tools
• Knowledge of drilling operations and geo-data management
• Experience with safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance in mining operations
